ECHUCA & DISTRICT HISTORIC CAR & MOTOR CYCLE CLUB Inc.
In 1982 a few keen Vintage enthusiasts who were tired of driving to Shepparton, formed their own club. A meeting was called by placing an ad in the local paper. Twelve people attended that meeting. A limited Permit use of vehicles was applied for and this was granted in February 1983.
Early days the meetings were held at Norm & Elma Raverty’s home. In 1995 feelers went out for somewhere to erect our own club rooms. Echuca Rotary Club offered a small area located at Rotary Park in Rose Street to erect a shed on. With a caretaker living in the park itself it seemed a good idea. We have a membership of 90 and have 106 cars on CPS plates.
The main change in the Club is the age of the vehicles. Once they were called Vintage/Veteran, with a few sprinkling of Classics. A Club event now has only a few Vintage and mainly Classics attend. The Club is very active with one or two runs a month, plus a General Meeting and a Test Run Day every month. Members come from all districts, and even a few from Melbourne who like to visit our sunshine regularly!! Safety Check days are held annually. We also run a two-day event called Rich River Rally which was held annually until 2003 when it was decided to be held bi – annually.
We, in Echuca are lucky to be in a town where we receive great support from the local and business people. Echuca is a well known tourist area with lots of attractions, and is central from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Wagga. There is an average of one or two visiting Club to Echuca nearly every week. When these Clubs contact us, we are only too happy to help them with any planning or make bookings for them. With 25 Motels and 15 Caravan Parks in the area, it’s a great place to run a good Club event from.
